Nita was deeply influenced by her father. Her strong sense of compassion and commitment to social work is something she inherited from him.

While Mukesh Ambani, India’s richest man, and his family often make headlines, Nita Ambani’s family is rarely in the spotlight. Despite being one of the most influential women in the country, Nita’s personal background has largely remained away from media attention. According to the book “She Walks, She Leads”, Nita was deeply influenced by her father, Ravindrabhai Dalal. Her strong sense of compassion and commitment to social work is something she inherited from him. As a child, Nita would often accompany her father on Sundays to distribute food to underprivileged people. She also loved feeding stray animals and birds, spending her free time caring for them.
Ravindrabhai Dalal worked as a senior officer at the Birla Group, and Nita grew up in a joint family, which helped her develop a strong sense of community and social responsibility.
Her marriage to Mukesh Ambani also has an interesting story, making her journey from a middle-class upbringing to becoming a part of India’s most powerful business family.
How Nita Ambani became part of the Ambani family
Nita Ambani’s journey into the Ambani family began with a fateful encounter. During an event, Kokilaben Ambani (Mukesh Ambani’s mother) noticed Nita and was instantly impressed by her grace and charm. She envisioned Nita as her future daughter-in-law. Kokilaben shared her thoughts with her husband, Dhirubhai Ambani, who wasted no time in making a move.
Dhirubhai personally called Ravindrabhai Dalal, Nita’s father, and invited Nita to their home. During the meeting, Dhirubhai directly asked Nita if she would consider marrying his son, Mukesh Ambani.
Ravindrabhai Dalal’s legacy in the Ambani family
The Ambani family has always held Ravindrabhai Dalal in high regard. In a touching tribute, before Akash Ambani’s wedding, he honored both his grandfather, Dhirubhai Ambani, and his maternal grandfather, Ravindrabhai Dalal. Akash applied vermilion (tika) to their photos and sought their blessings through prayer.
Ravindrabhai Dalal passed away in 2014, and his final rites were carried out by Akash Ambani and Anant Ambani, reflecting the family’s deep respect for Nita’s father.
