As Cannes Film Festival 2025 moved on to its Day 6, it highlighted a unique cinematic experience. This featured Wes Anderson’s new presentation The Phoenician Scheme.
This Wes Anderson directed film received appreciation and a 7-minutes long standing ovation from the audience for its unique cinematic and story experience. The film stars Mia Threapleton, daughter of Kate Winslet, who couldn’t hold back her tears as the crowd cheered on her performance.
Later, Anderson along with Michael Cera and Benicio del Toro, delivered a fun but touching comment. “I can think of about 12 words to say that stand for everything in this movie: Richard Ayoade, Riz, Alexandre, Michael, Mia, Jeffrey, Rupert, Benedict, God and Benicio del Toro.” The special premier was attended by Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia.
Nicole Kidman also looked graceful on the stage as she arrived to receive the Woman in Motion Award. The award was presented by Kering Chairman François-Henri Pinault, Cannes President Iris Knobloch, and festival director Thierry Fremaux.
In a candid conversation with Variety, Nicole Kidman reminded everyone of her promise of working with a female director every 18 months, which the actress turned producer upheld across 27 projects.
“I was going to make it possible,” she said, adding, “We will take the risk, mentor, support, and protect — create a forcefield around women so they can do their best work.” The actress-producer was also then spotted catching up with her partners Charlie XCX, and Salma Hayek at the Kering Women In Motion dinner.
