In an interview with Friday Talkies, Daya Shankar Pandey shared that he was going through financial struggle and requested thet assistant director of Akele Hum Akele Tum to give him a role. He was going to get Rs 2000 per day for 12 days work.

However, since he had worked with Aamir Khan in the movie Baazi and was considered a good actor, it was a pack-up for him. Daya Shankar Pandey said, ‘I would try and avoid Aamir sir so that he doesn’t see me but one day he saw me and called me and asked what I am doing there. When I told that I am playing a junior artist’s role, he told Mansoor Khan and the AD, ‘He is a very good actor. Don’t waste him.’

This is the reason why Daya Shankar Pandey considered Aamir Khan as villain. He said, ‘I didn’t want to hear this appreciation because I wanted to earn my per day and leave. I thought of Aamir Khan as a villain at that time. They did my pack-up.’

However, Aamir Khan did makeup for it. Daya Shankar Pandey received a role in Lagaan and Ghulam. Aamir also recommended him for other films being done by Mahesh Bhatt, however, he faced rejection.
