His bond with Simi Garewal
One of the most talked-about aspects of Ratan Tata’s personal life was his relationship with actress and talk show host Simi Garewal. He said, “A lot of things happened that stopped me from getting married. The timing was never right, and then I got so deeply involved in my work that I never had time. There were moments when I came close to marriage, but it just didn’t happen.”

Ratan Tata on loneliness: “I craved for a family”
Ratan Tata once shared that he had fallen in love four times, and in some cases, things even reached the stage of marriage. However, for one reason or another, it never worked out.
He candidly admitted, “There are times when I feel lonely because I don’t have a wife or a family. Sometimes, I deeply crave that companionship. But at the same time, I also enjoy the freedom of not having to worry about someone else’s emotions or concerns.”
His first love and heartbreak
During an interview with Humans of Bombay, Ratan Tata spoke about his first love and how close he came to getting married.
“I was in Los Angeles when I fell in love. We were almost set to get married. But at that time, I made the decision to return to India because I had been away from my grandmother for almost seven years,” he recalled.
A wedding that never happened
He further explained what went wrong: “My grandmother’s health was deteriorating, so I returned to India, thinking that the woman I loved would join me later. But unfortunately, due to the 1962 India-China war, her parents were not comfortable with the idea of her moving to India. And just like that, the relationship ended.”
