Indian Railways earns about 400 crore rupees (approximately 48 million dollars) every day. The largest share of this revenue comes from freight trains.

Indian Railways earned Rs 1,60,158.48 crore from freight in the financial year 22-23, according to PIB data while in the year 2019-20, the earnings of Indian Railways from ticket cancellations alone were Rs 1,724.44 crore, according to information obtained through RTI.
