The chairperson of Reliance Industries shifted into ‘Antilia’ with his family – Nita Ambani, Isha Ambani, Akash Ambani, Anant Ambani – in 2010. It took several years to construct this grand mansion with luxurious amenities gracing the Mumbai skyline. In a report that surfaced in the same year revealed the amount that was accounted for the building’s first electricity bill.

Asia’s richest man’s home is estimated to be worth Rs 15000 crores making it the second most expensive private residence after Buckingham Palace. In a month, the home consumed around 6,37,240 units of electricity, resulting in a staggering power bill of Rs 70,69,488 (over Rs 70 lakhs), stated a 2010 Economic Times report.
Imagine how many cars, how many homes can one purchase within this whopping amount. With the array of amenities that caters to the lifestyle of the family, an electricity bill worth several lakhs is a given.
Few amenities of the engineering marvel include – helipads for hassle free and quick travel, multi-storey parking lot for housing a luxury car collection of estimated 168 cars, lavish spa, temperature controlled swimming pool, grand temple space, high speed elevators, theater, gym, air conditioned rooms, and so on and so forth. Several of the facilities might run 24/7 to match the functioning of this high-scale home.
During that time, the same report explained that Ambani got a discount of Rs 48,354 for prompt payment. “To put it in perspective, an average household equipped with all electronic amenities consumes 300 units per month. Ambani was, in fact, given a discount of Rs 48,354 for prompt payment, so the Rs 70 lakh quoted earlier is minus this amount. Experts say it’s is roughly equivalent to the monthly power bill of 7,000 homes!” reports ET.
