Apart from being an astute businessman, Mukesh Ambani, the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries Ltd, is known for his love of Bollywood movies and sports. Many may not know that he watches around three Bollywood films each week at home.
One of the movies he watched in 1967 inspired him to pursue chemical engineering. As the eldest among his siblings, Ambani enjoyed certain privileges. His father, Dhirubhai Ambani, did not impose strict rules on him or his siblings Anil, Deepti, and Nina.
There are reports that suggest when Mukesh and his siblings were young, they had a tutor who taught them general knowledge (GK) through movies, magazines, and newspapers, along with sports like hockey and football.
Mukesh was always brilliant in studies and loved to read about science. His passion was never about earning more money but taking on challenges. He had a strong interest in chemical engineering and the desire to complete his studies in the same field.

Ambani started schooling at Hill Grange High School in Mumbai. Later, he joined St. Xavier’s College. As per reports, he cracked IIT-JEE and secured admission to the prestigious institution IIT Bombay, however, he left the university to complete his graduation from Chemical Engineering at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai.
After completing his graduation, he went on to pursue an MBA at Stanford University. But he returned to India in 1980 to help his father build up Reliance Industries.

In 1981, Mukesh Ambani joined the family business, Reliance Industries. His innovative strategies and leadership have been instrumental in the company’s diversification and growth across a spectrum of sectors. Under his stewardship, Reliance Retail emerged as India’s largest retailer, profoundly influencing the country’s retail landscape. He entered telecom sector and not only revolutionised Indian telecom but also played a pivotal role in the digital empowerment of Indians.
