Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries has shared an exciting update about its upcoming Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) project in Andhra Pradesh. This massive initiative is expected to generate 2.5 lakh jobs opportunities, especially for young people in rural areas. The company is setting up large-scale CBG production hubs across the state and has already begun constructing its first plant. The announcement came on Wednesday evening, confirming that Reliance plans to establish a total of 500 such facilities in Andhra Pradesh.
Rs. 65,000 crore green energy initiative
In a formal stock exchange filing, Reliance Industries revealed that the foundation stone for its first CBG plant was laid in Kanigiri, located in Prakasam district. The ceremony was attended by Nara Lokesh, Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for IT and Electronics.
As part of this ambitious plan, the company will transform nearly 500,000 acres of barren and unused land across Prakasam, Anantapur, Chittoor, and Kadapa districts into productive bio-energy zones. Once all the plants become fully operational, they are expected to produce 40 lakh tonnes of eco-friendly compressed bio-gas annually, along with 1.1 million metric tonnes of organic fertilizer.
According to an official statement, the company is investing Rs. 139 crore in the first CBG plant, which is part of a larger plan to develop 500 such units. The total investment for the entire project stands at Rs. 65,000 crore. Reliance highlighted that the plant will incorporate advanced technology and use Napier grass as a key raw material.
The plant will use Napier grass grown on barren and waste lands to produce bio-gas. “The initiative will boost the rural economy by providing lease income to farmers and ensuring a guaranteed price for the grass they cultivate,” the company stated.
It’s worth noting that Reliance Industries is India’s largest private company, with total revenue of Rs.10 lakh crore, a cash profit of Rs. 1.41 lakh crore, and a net profit of Rs. 79,020 crore for the financial year ending March 31, 2024.
