Even though the era of kings and queens has long ended in India, several royal families continue to carry forward their rich heritage. Among them is the Wadiyar dynasty of Mysuru, considered one of the wealthiest royal lineages in the country. The current head of the family, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, is the 27th Maharaja of the dynasty. According to reports, he owns a massive fortune of around Rs. 80,000 crore. In 2016, he married Princess Trishika Kumari from the Dungarpur royal family. Their union made headlines when Trishika gave birth to a son, marking the first child born into the royal family in 400 years.
Before this, the Wadiyar dynasty followed a tradition of adopting heirs from relatives, as no biological child had been born for centuries. So, when Trishika became a mother seven years ago, it was a momentous occasion.
Grace and simplicity
Despite her royal status, Trishika Kumari is known for her elegant yet simple style. Her appearances often reflect a down-to-earth charm, whether she’s spotted in traditional Indian attire or casual wear. Trishika’s saree looks are particularly admired. She has been seen in a royal blue silk saree as well as a soft pink saree, both paired with a pearl necklace. Her look is completed with a small bindi and neatly styled hair in a half-up, half-down fashion.

Why Wadiyar dynasty was childless for 400 years
According to folklore, the Wadiyar family is believed to be under a curse placed by Alamelamma, the wife of Srirangaraya, the then chieftain of Srirangapatna. When Srirangaraya fell ill, he entrusted the kingdom’s administration to Alamelamma. During this period of transition, Raja Wadiyar attempted to seize control of Srirangapatna. To escape capture, Alamelamma fled towards the River Cauvery near Malingi (Talakadu). Before drowning herself, she reportedly threw her jewels into the river and cursed that Talakadu would turn into a barren, sandy desert, Malingi would become a whirlpool, and the Mysore royal family would face a childless fate in every alternate generation. Interestingly, this curse appears to have manifested, as the Maharajas of Mysore have indeed struggled with heirless generations over the centuries.
