If you are using Windows 10 on your PC, you might already be aware of its end-of-support from October 14, 2025. It means you will no longer receive security or feature updates. Microsoft will no longer invest in actively developing features for Windows 10 users.
To stop users from missing out on features on Windows 11 and not falling victim to end-of-support on Windows 10, Microsoft has started notifying users of the same. If you are seeing the end-of-support notification and want to get rid of it, follow this guide.
What is End of Service on Windows 10?
Microsoft is stopping sending updates and giving technical support to Windows 10 after October 14, 2025. Users are seeing the following notification on their screens regarding the same.
It’s time to upgrade your PC before end of support.
End of support for Windows 10 arrives on October 14th, 2025. This means your PC won’t receive technical support or security updates after that date. Get Windows 11 to stay up to date.
Let’s see what we can do to get rid of the notification.
4 Ways to Stop “Your Version of Windows 10 Has Reached End of Service” Notification
Upgrade to Windows 11
One of the safest ways to get rid of end-of-support notifications on your PC is to upgrade it to Windows 11. As Windows 11 is the current OS from Microsoft, you will have no issue in getting security updates or feature updates.
The simplest way to upgrade to Windows 11 is through Windows updates in the Settings app. Open the Settings app and navigate to Windows updates in the Update & Security settings. Then, check for Windows updates and upgrade to Windows 11.
Microsoft has laid out a minimum system requirement to install and run Windows 11 safely. If your PC is ineligible, you can also install Windows 11 on your unsupported PC. You have to manually download Windows 11 ISO and create a bootable disk to upgrade to Windows 11 on your unsupported PC. To bypass the requirements, you need to modify the registry on your Windows 1o and proceed with the installation of Windows 11.
Using a third-party tool like Rufus contains options to bypass the security requirement of Windows 11 and continue installing it safely. Even if you install Windows 11 this way, your PC may struggle to use all the available features on Windows 11. This just gives you time until you upgrade your PC to a compatible one.
Remove Notification via Registry Editor
If you cannot upgrade your PC to Windows 11 for any reason, you can use this method to avoid seeing the end-of-support notification on your Windows 10 PC. You need to change the registry values to stop the notification. Before jumping into modifying anything on the Registry Editor, you need to back up the entire Registry to avoid messing up in the process.
To remove end-of-support notifications using the Registry Editor on Windows 10,
Remove Notification Tasks in the Task Scheduler
Microsoft shows you the end-of-support notifications using the Task Scheduler on your Windows 10 PC. They are created automatically so that you see the warnings and upgrade to Windows 11, ditching the current Windows 10.
To remove scheduled Windows 10 end-of-support notifications in the Task Scheduler,
- Click the Start menu, search for Task Scheduler, and open it.
- Then, under the Active Tasks list, find EOSNotify, EOSNotify2, and Oobeupdater and disable them. Just double-click on them, and select Delete from the options on the right-side bar. Repeat the process until you delete all three to get rid of the notifications.
If you cannot find or delete the scheduled notifications in the Task Scheduler, you can block them from running using PowerShell.
To block the notifications using PowerShell, open PowerShell as an administrator, run the following commands one after another, and press Enter.
Get-ScheduledTask -TaskName "EOSNotify*" | Disable-ScheduledTask
Get-ScheduledTask -TaskName "GWX*" | Disable-ScheduledTask
You will see a successful message after running the commands. You will now stop seeing the notifications regarding Windows 10 end-of-support.
Get Extended Security Updates
Microsoft has introduced a paid program that enables Windows 10 users to get security updates even after October 14, 2025, when Windows 10 reaches its end-of-support. It costs $61 per PC per year. You need to purchase the plan through the Microsoft Volume Licensing Program. Note that the prices for the plan double every consecutive year to encourage users to upgrade to Windows 11.
To get extended security updates, your PC must run the Windows 10 22H2 version. You need to remember that you will not get any additional features except for the security updates in this paid plan.
What to do When PC Can’t be Upgraded to Windows 11 After Windows 10 End of Support
If you cannot upgrade your PC to Windows 11, you have the following options.
Install an Antivirus Program
Windows 10 will not receive any security updates after its end of support. To secure the PC from malware and other attacks, you need to install a third-party antivirus, preferably a paid one, to ensure the protection of your PC and its data.
Without a third-party antivirus, your PC can be vulnerable to ever-evolving malware attacks.
Get a New PC
The only choice you have when you cannot upgrade to Windows 11 with an unsupported PC is to ditch your old PC and get a new one. This way, you get better system resources, a new operating system, and regular updates.
Another reason to upgrade your PC is to make your PC compatible with newer AI models that require neural engines. You can use the PC for another few years and get the best out of it.
Ditch Windows
You may completely ditch Windows and install a Linux distribution that looks like Windows 10. Zorin OS, Kubuntu, and Linux Lite distributions look familiar to Windows users. They may help you stay regularly updated and use your old PC without any issues.
The only downside is that you may need to compromise on a few programs and their Linux-compatible free alternatives.
Disable Windows 10 End of Service Notification
Even if you disable the Windows 10 end-of-support notification, your device runs out of support with Windows 10 and will not receive any security updates, making it vulnerable. You can use the above methods until then and plan an alternative after its end-of-support.
