Smartphones usually work through telephone towers and internet networks. They require 4G, 5G or Wi-Fi networks for calling, messaging and internet use. If there is no network coverage, the smartphone cannot be used.
On the other hand, satellite phones connect directly to satellites above the earth instead of telecom towers. This means that no network tower is required to use it. Satellite phones can be used in places where no telecom network is available, such as dense forests, deserts, seas, or mountainous areas.
How does a satellite phone work?
Satellite phones have a special antenna that communicates directly with satellites. When you make a call or send a message, the signal reaches the satellite directly. This signal is then transmitted to the receiver via another satellite or a ground station. This process takes more time and energy than a normal mobile network.
