Islamabad: Amidst the bloody conflict in Balochistan, Pakistan has discovered a huge deposit of rare antimony in the province. This rare metal can stabilise the economy of the bankrupt neighbouring country. Apart from this, Pakistan has also announced that it has discovered gold, copper, nickel and cobalt reserves in Gilgit-Baltistan. Islamabad stated that it has made major progress in mineral exploration. Especially the recent discovery of antimony is considered very important for the country as it is a rare metal and plays a crucial part in the development of modern technology.
According to Pak’s Express News, the rare metal has been discovered in Balochistan by Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC). Part of a commercial project both companies have formed a 50-50 percent joint venture. The official announcement is expected at the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025 on 8-9 April.
Pakistan Gets Rare Treasure
Pakistan has reportedly discovered significant mineral deposits, including gold, copper, nickel, and cobalt, in Gilgit-Baltistan. Simultaneously, mineral exploration is underway in Chiniot, Punjab, with government agencies collaborating to accelerate the process. Furthermore, Pakistan is considering utilizing Omani facilities for antimony refinement and is investing in globally standardized mining education to bolster the sector’s growth.
To further develop the mineral sector, Pakistan OGDCL is strengthening its cooperation with Higher Education Commission (HEC) and universities. In addition, remote sensing and geological surveys are underway to comprehensively analyze Balochistan’s newly discovered antimony reserves. Experts believe that these discoveries can play an important role in boosting Pakistan’s economy and increasing the country’s mining industry. But given the situation in Balochistan, it will not be easy for Pakistan to extract these metals.
To pay extra attention in the mineral sector, Pakistan OGDCL is strengthening its cooperation with Higher Education Commission (HEC) and universities. In addition, remote sensing and geological surveys are underway to analyse Balochistan’s newly discovered antimony reserves.
